New medical innovation is in the works to help those with heart failure. At the March 11 Waunakee Rotary Club meeting, Ayla Annac, CEO and President of InvivoSciences, discussed Invivo’s development of new therapies to reverse stiffness in the heart muscle.
Ayla has partners in the enterprise, bioengineers and consultants; she is the entrepreneur. She  was attracted to Madison because of the presence of other biotechnology companies.
At Invivo, the partners are developing Precision Therapy for Heart Failure with Prescribed Ejection Fraction.
Ayla said her father died of heart failure at age 53, and that led her to search for solutions to the heart condition. Currently, some 6.5 million Americans live with heart failure and it is estimated to affect 1 in 33 people in the future. Currently, there are no effective therapies for cardiac fibrosis.
Invivo is is a precision medicine company personalizing the drug development process by introducing the next-generation, best-in-class patient-derived and gene-edited human samples, including automated, scalable, functional 3D engineered micro-human heart tissue platform.
This will aid pharmaceutical companies in developing treatments.
Anya said is it not genetic therapy but pharmaceuticals being developed would soften the heart muscle and reverse the fibrosis.
So far, $8.5 million has been raised for this development through grants, contracts and customers. Currently, Invivo is looking for development partners.
