Vol. 52 No. 27
Waunakee Rotary Newsletter July 6, 2017
Kim Langfeld has been in banking for the past 40 years and says she is still looking forward to seeing what changes occur in the industry.
Kim gave her classification talk at the July 6 Waunakee Rotary meeting. She had been a member in the past when she was at M&I Bank and has joined again now that she’s the branch manager at BMO Harris.
Kim grew up as an “Air Force brat,” she said, in the Upper Peninsula. Her family later moved  back to Madison, where they were from.
Kim now lives in the Mary Lake subdivision in the Town of Westport, where she resides with several residents owls. Apparently, apart from their hooting, it’s very quiet, she said.
Kim raised her family in DeForest, and is having a little difficulty becoming  a Warrior, she said.
Her oldest son is a police officer in DeForest and lives in Poynette. Her daughter lives in the Breckenridge area, and her youngest son just bought a house in Waterloo. Kim said she was very active in their school activities when they were young, and that gave them the sense of giving back.
Kim’s hobbies are traveling and riding her motorcycle. Her daughter also offers travel services, and the two like to go off on adventures. They once climbed Kilimanjaro and went on a safari afterwards.
Kim got her motorcycle license several years ago and loves to ride in the Rocky Mountains, in Montana and Wyoming. She also teaches rider classes.
“It’s been amazing to meet people from all walks of life with the same interest,” she said.
She’s witnessed many changes in the banking industry during her career, and when she started, TYME machines dispensed cash. Banks are also using social media much more to connect with customers.
Kim said she loves being in Waunakee in a growing community.

The club also held Club Assembly at the July 6 meeting. The following are reports from the committees:
-The international committee was successful in obtaining a matching grant from the Rotary International Foundation for a water project in Kenya. Waunakee Rotary contributed $2,000, and another club added $2,000 toward the total $6,000 grant. It will be used to create a drip irrigation system.
-The fellowship committee is still organizing the pontoon oat ride for July 18.
-The youth exchange committee is preparing for the arrival of a French boy in August. Also, Linda Olson is having a going away party for Agate at her house Sunday, July 9.
-Speakers are booked for the next few months, including the Dean of Students from UW-Madison next week.
-WaunaFest is about three weeks away, and volunteers are needed for the weekend.

Other News:
–President Jim Kattner sent a survey to members and got about a 35 percent response. He is putting together a much smaller survey to gauge how club members feel we should spend foundation dollars, he said.
