Waunakee Rotary Club
September 7, 2017
Vol. 52 No. 36
Waunakee Rotary Newsletter Sept. 7, 2017
There was no dancing or singing, but Linda Olson provided the Waunakee Rotary Club with a thorough treasurer’s report at the Sept. 7 meeting.
She reminded the club that a recent grant from the International Rotary Foundation for a water project in Kenya would not be possible if the club had not meet the foundation’s goal for all clubs.
Unless each club contributes an average of $100 per member to the International Foundation, the club is ineligible for grants. So far in 2017, the club has averaged $44 per member toward that goal, Linda said.
Linda presented a balance sheet for the both the Waunakee Rotary Club and its foundation. So far this year, the club has made $57,257 in donations for the community, with total donations adding up to $83,000, including student programs, service projects and donations and polio plus donations in honor speakers.
“Thank you for all you do for our community,” Linda said. “This is one good way to show all you do.”
Also at the Sept. 7 meeting, committee members reported on their projects during club assembly.
Fundraising and community service committees are gearing up for Wauktoberfest Sept. 15-17. A new German Bake-off is part of the event, and contestants are asked to bring their goods in Sunday by 12:30 p.m. for judging. They will then be sold to raise funds.
The Lone Girl and Octopi will also have their beers there.
The membership committee has organized a networking meeting after work. If you bring a prospective member, you can be entered into a drawing for a gift card. The first will be Thursday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. at Mr. Brews Taphouse; The October meeting will be on the 25th at Brix wine bar.
The international committee has heard back from Kenya, where trenches are being dug for the water project. Also, Mick Holms said on Oct. 22, at the Food for Kidz event, a truck will be loaded to go to an orphanage in Haiti. It’s also a chance to travel to Haiti. Let Mick know if you’re interested.
The speaker committee has Todd Schmidt booked on Oct. 12 to give a state of the village address.
The youth committee has welcomed Harold from France. Also, the reading and fifth-grade RICE programs will start up again soon.
