Waunakee  Rotary Newsletter April 1, 2021
With the speaker unable to present at the April 1 Rotary meeting, the club delved into what is usually “other news” in this newsletter.
President Tom Kennedy thanked all who helped make the Drive-through Easter Bunny event successful on this past soggy Saturday morning. All 500 goodie bags were given to families, with 40 cars still queued up. Buckets of other treats were given out, as well. About 20 cars were still lined up after the treats ran out. Phil Willems and Taylor Endres donned Easter Bunny suits, and they were joined by mascots from Endres Manufacturing and the Mallards.
Jim Kattner reported on WaunaFest. Initially, the WaunaFest committee had planned on eliminating the beer tent, midway and parade.
But like everything during this COVID-19 pandemic year, these plans are still in a state of flux. An emergency WaunaFest committee meeting was held, and now the beer tent, parade and midway may be happening. Whether bands can be booked at this point is unknown.
The food tent situation is still being figured out, but likely won’t be a big tent. It could be a drive-through with food carts or individual tents staffed by the clubs. All details are still being worked out, and another meeting has been set for Monday. Jim says we have until May to really nail down plans, but he expects to know for sure about the beer garden, parade and midway after Monday’s meeting.
Rex Endres is seeking volunteers to help with the Whitetails dinner. Check your email for Jim’s message on this. Also, volunteers are needed for the Tri 4 Schools event and the park clean-up. The clean-up day will be April 10, with a rain date of April 17. Jim also sent an email out on this.
Jim Elvekrog was pleased with the turnout of the membership survey. After a second request asking members to fill it out, 44 responses were received. That’s over 50 percent of the members. The survey is part of the club’s strategic planning process.
Lori Derauf asked about meeting in person again, possibly at the Waunakee library’s large meeting room and just on club assembly days, when the committees get together. The board of directors has been discussing the possibility of in-person meetings, Tom said.
Tom urged everyone to get the vaccine and said the message from Rotary International is to listen to the scientists on COVID-related health matters.
