Vol. 52 No. 18
Waunakee Rotary Club Newsletter May 4, 2017
Waunakee Rotary Club Committees are working on a variety of projects, and at Club Assembly May 4, the chairs described a few of them.
Bob Sachtjen sent around two sign-up sheets for volunteers. One was for the Spring Clean May 6. Volunteers will meet at the Village Hall Saturday morning to spruce up that area, then some will head to the Rotary Walk at Village Pond for maintenance there.
The other sign-up sheet was for the Tri 4 School kids triathlon, set for 7:30-10:30 a.m. May 20. Also, Bob said a someone is needed to chair the Easter Egg Hunt event. Phil Willems has this well organized, so really the work will be organizing the day of the event.
Bob Pulvermacher said while the club has lost some members, it has gained a few new, active ones. That committee is looking at how to retain members, mainly focusing on the number of activities members are involved in.
For Youth and Vocation, Lori Derauf reported that three high school sophomores will participate in RYLA, a youth leadership camp. Scott Biba will be a counselor there. Scott is also taking over for Shanna Dunn as the Youth Exchange Officer for the club.
Dan Statz said the fundraising committee is taking a break and the next big fundraiser will be the WaunaFest booth. Stay tuned for details.
Todd Schmidt said the speaker and public relations committee has some interesting programs scheduled. One of the more notable ones in June will be Montee Ball’s presentation. If you have ideas for future speakers, email Todd so he can schedule them.
Linda Olson for international said the District Conference is next weekend. If you’re going, get your voting credentials, she said. The committee is planning to help with a water extension project for SOAR Kenya, so they can sell water to a neighboring community, she said.
Bob Klostermann and his fellowship committee is planning for the Steak Fry at Drumlin Ridge Winery. The next fellowship event will be the Pontoon Boat Outing, and that’s likely to be moved to Lake Mendota

Other News:
–President Travis Heiser said he was pleased to represent the club at the Community Awards Banquet and receive the Nonprofit of the Year Award.
–The Rotary Board of Directors met earlier in the week and approved donations to: the WNC Med Lock Box program; the Pay It Forward Club; St. John’s Safety Patrol and a school supply fund. The club also approved two new memberships and will present four scholarships.
