Vol. 52 No. 49
Waunakee Rotary Newsletter May 3, 2018
Troy Salisbury seems to have found a good balance between work and family.
A new member of the Waunakee Rotary Club, Troy gave his classification talk at the May 3 meeting.
He and his wife, Crystal, have two daughters, and on weekends they enjoy spending time outdoors, camping or at a cabin with other family members.
Avery will be 6, and Maddie was born when he opened his office here 10 years ago.
Maddie loves to dance and takes classes at Spotlight Dance Academy. Troy said it’s been amazing watching her evolve from a shy little girl into a dancer who performs solos.
Avery is the family “goofball,” Troy said, and loves making people laugh and doing anything outside.
Troy and Crystal were high school sweethearts and have been together nearly 10 years. They’re both from Phillips, Wisconsin, a town of about 1,700 people with three main factories.
Troy is a State Farm agent and just moved his office from the former TDS building on Baker Street to the Cottages on Main. His office has grown from one agent to three full-time team members and one part-timer.
“I absolutely love what I do. It gives me the opportunity to run my office the way I want to,”  Troy said, adding that he is an independent contractor with State Farm.

Rotary Club committees are involved in a number of projects, and at the May 3 meeting, the chairs gave their reports during club assembly.
Bob Sachtjen of the service committee thanked everyone who participated in the clean-up day – areas of the village have been mulched and spruced up.
On May 14, Rotary will help out at Tri 4 School at the finish line, setting up juice, snacks and sponsor banners from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Let him know if you can help. Rotary will also help out at the beer tent from 5 p.m.-midnight on June 15.
Bob Pulvermacher of membership said the Sunrise meeting is set for next week at the senior center. The committee is also sending cards and emails to members who haven’t attended.
Mick Holm on international committee reported that a grant for the water project in Kenya is completed. He’s attending a grant management training and said it would be great if other Rotarians would like to join him.
Ken Pesik said the next grant will be for a water fountain at the Village Center Pond.
Todd Schmidt of the speakers and publicity committee said the next upcoming speaker will be master’s of business administration students at the UW Bolz Center who will talk about their work with the village to advance its creative economy. On June 14, Mick Holm and Bill Erickson will talk about their trip to Haiti.
Bob Klostermann reported that the Steak Fry will be held the last Wednesday in June at the Drumlin Winery from 4-8 p.m. The boat ride will be a three-hour Betty Lou excursion. On Aug. 11, Rotary will have a Mallards night.
Lori Derauf reported from the Youth and Vocational Committee. Four students are traveling to the World Affairs Seminar, and students will also attend RYLA camp. Ten scholarship applications were received from Waunakee High School and Madison Country Day School students. The next exchange student is from Taiwan, and her American name is Jenny. No inbound students are planned for the following year, unless other club members want to serve on that committee.
