Waunakee Rotary held its Club Assembly at the July 12 with committee reports presented.
The membership committee is looking for volunteers to help with organizing a club orientation, especially because the committee has so few members serving on it. Ellen Schaaf has volunteered to help update the Rotary brochure for the Hi Neighbor program, but again, help is needed.
For fundraising, the next big event is WaunaFest, and volunteers are needed especially on Saturday to work at the Rotary food stand. The next big event will be Wauktoberfest Sept. 14-16.
The international committee reported that global grants are available to travel abroad to Australia and India. Also, Food for Kidz will be Oct. 21, this year at the High School Fieldhouse to allow for more high school student involvement. Mick Holm said he hopes a shipping container to be there to send food to Haiti again, and there may be more travel opportunities there and to Kenya in the future.
The fellowship committee reminded the club that Tuesday, July 17, Waunakee Rotarians have signed up for the Betty Lou Cruise. At least 20 are going.
He’s also encouraging members to meet up at the Live From the Park  Tuesday evenings and Waunakee Community Band Concerts Thursday evening at Waunakee Village Park.
More fellowship events take place Sept. 14-16 at Wauktoberfest. Also in October, Ray Statz has volunteered to organize a Rustic Road Rally if members are interested, and in November, there may be a Bunco party.
Community service is gearing up for WaunaFest, as well, July 26-29. One large project members are researching is an diffuser system at Village Pond to prevent algae formation. A meeting with the Bruce Company revealed the system would pump oxygen into the pond. The cost is $10,000. Ken Pesik said kids enjoy fishing there and have caught bluegill and bass.
Harriet Statz from the youth and vocational committee said Roxanne Johnson’s daughter and three other high school students attended the World Affairs seminars. They will present at Rotary in the future. Also, Scott Biba told the club that Harold, who has been in Waunakee on an exchange this school year, returns to France July 28. A going away get-together is planned for July 17. Now that committee is planning for the incoming exchange student from Taiwan.
Roberta Baumann of meetings and public relations said meetings are scheduled for the next several weeks and Rich Murphy, former Waunakee Tribune publisher, will speak July 19. Also, she offered to publish the events provided on a list to committees in the paper’s Coming Events section.
