The Waunakee Rotary Club members met in committee for club assembly at the April 24 meeting. The following committees gave reports.
Ken Pesik said the annual clean-up is Saturday. Volunteers will start out at 9 a.m. at Ace Hardware to pick up bark and then head to the dog park to spread it on a path. Jim Elvekrog said he has been trimming along the walking path through Six Mile Creek to the downtown and library area, and volunteers are needed to collect the brush and bring it curbside for pickup. Volunteers will also spread bark at the Village Center Pond area. At 11:30 or noon, they’ll head to Waun-a-Bowl for lunch. Volunteers are also needed to sign up for Tri 4 Kids.
Bob Klostermann is planning a Kentucky Derby party from 3-7 p.m. for fellowship. It will be at the Lamphouse Apartments community room. He’s also planning a Betty Lou Cruise for June 3. And the steak fry or change of the guard will be at the end of June.
Al Dassow suggested a trip to Green Bay for a Packers practice. Members would leave early in the morning to get a seat. He said it’s a much more personal view of the team.
Alex Welk said the international committee is continuing to raise funds for projects at the SOAR Kenya school. The club will be eligible for matching Rotary International Foundation matching grants provided each member contributes $100 to that fund.
Also, Mitch Holm said the Friends of Gov. Nelson State Park will hold its first annual meeting May 8 and invited the club to attend.
Robert Arntz announced that the exchange students will present to the club May 22. The youth and vocational committee also chose three scholarship recipients, as well. Recipients of the Service to Humanity Scholarships and the amounts are Jeremiah Alfred - $3,000; Isabella Mack - $3,000; and Sofia Nelson - $2,000.

The next fundraiser is WaunaFest, and Tom Kennedy and Tony Burns have stepped up as chairs. Pat Durden says everyone needs to sign up for a shift at the food stand.
John Cullen said the membership committee “gets s#@t done.” At the meeting were new table tops showing the club activities throughout the year.
