The Waunakee Rotary Club committees are working on a number of projects. At the club assembly on March 27, committee chairs reported on the progress.

The fellowship committee is planning a Kentucky Derby party with betting as a fundraiser. Ladies may want to get their hats ready for the May 3 event at the Lamphouse Apartments community room on Main Street. Let Bob Klostermann know if you plan to attend.

Bob is also making plans for an evening cruise on the Betty Lou sometime in June. The Steak Fry will be the last week in June at either Drumlin Ridge or J Henry.

Membership is trying to increase attendance. They are reviewing the results of the survey that members took.

The youth committee has received six scholarship applications. They are trying to get more students to sign up for the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy event on May 11. Juniors and sophomores can sign up, said Robert Arntz.

The reading program at Heritage Elementary School is underway. The exchange students are now on spring break and will soon move into their next hosts’ homes. The club is planning a going away party for the students on June 9.

The meetings and programs committee has a few openings for speakers, so if there’s a program you’d like to see, let Kylie West or the other committee members know. Next week’s speaker is Veronica Castillo, executive director of Waunakee Neighborhood Connection.

The international committee is planning to attend the Tri-Con event in Brookfield April 25-27 and encourage fellow Rotarians to join them. They are working on a grant to fund construction of three greenhouses and an aquaculture facility to raise fish at the SOAR Kenya school. They have raised $10,000 so far, but need another $20,000, Linda Olson said. If you know of other clubs who want to work on writing grants, let Linda know.

Ken Pesik reported on community service. The club is planning a clean-up around the Village Center Pond April 26. They’ll meet at Village Hall then head to other sites. The Senior Citizens picnic is the second Wednesday of June with a location to be determined. Also, all planning materials for the arch at the Main Street Village Park entrance have been provided to the village’s Parks and Recreation Committee for review. That committee will meet April 12, at 5:30 p.m., at the entrance to the park.

A volunteer is needed to take over to run the WaunaFest concession stand for the festival weekend.
