Waunakee Rotary Club members learned more about one of the club’s newer members, Cassey Zickert, as she was asked the day prior to give her classifications at the Dec. 2 meeting.
Cassey is the property manager for the Lamphouse Apartments, the relatively new apartment building on Main Street. She grew up in Middleton and is a 2008 graduate of Middleton High School where she played sports. Her basketball and softball teams went to state her senior year.
After graduation, Cassey attended Winona College and completed an internship with Ironman in Tampa, Florida.
Still an avid sports fan and competitor, Cassey recently took up golf and conceded that she may have made a mistake in doing so.
She shared pictures of herself and her husband and family, including siblings, saying she’s “obsessed” with her nieces and nephews. Cassey enjoys spending time with her large family; her father is one of 12 in the family known as the Simons of Middleton, she said.
In March of 2020, Cassey and her husband bought a home in Belleville. She said it was strange moving to a new community during a pandemic when she couldn’t meet her neighbors. The couple had planned a wedding at the Waunakee Village Park with a reception at Rex’s Innkeeper but ended up having a backyard wedding.
Cassey spoke about Hovde Properties, her employer, that developed both the Lamphouse and Village Crossing across the street, where the Lone Girl and Red Barn Company Store are located. Hovde Properties develops residential and commercial buildings and has properties in Madison, Janesville and Milwaukee as well as Waunakee.
Cassey began with Hovde Properties as a receptionist in 2017 and then became a leasing specialist at the Ovation 309 luxury apartment building in Madison in 2019. She began as the property manager at Lamphouse in 2021, saying he is enjoying it, and the people are friendly. It is a 103-unit building built in 2019 with one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, including some fully furnished with short-term leases.
“Hovde is a nice company to work for,” Cassey said.
It also has a foundation that includes Hovde Homes throughout developing countries such as Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala and other places. The homes are a safe haven and can accommodate between 40-50 children. Employees can volunteer to help build the homes, and in 2019, Cassey visited Kenya.
