The Waunakee Rotary Club met in committees for club assembly at its July 28 meeting, first taking some time to examine goals set in the past year and assess whether the committees were meeting those.

Committee members provided reports on their work as follows:

Youth and vocational – Some changes are being proposed to the scholarships and they will be brought before the board. Kevin McDaniels has agreed to volunteer in one of the Youth Exchange positions. One more volunteer is needed.

International – The defluoridation project at SOAR Kenya is underway. The club provided $2,000 toward that project.

Also, St. John’s School is looking to donate a number of textbooks. Another Rotary Club can help ship them to Guatemala if someone has a truck to pick them up and take them to a location in Madison, Jean Elvkrog reported. Help is needed packing those books, she said. She will provide the club with more details. Mick Holm reported that Food for Kids is Oct. 16.

The membership committee has set some strategic goals to work.

Community service - WaunaFest is this weekend, then Wauktoberfest is in September. The bourbon taste is Sept. 7. Wauktoberfest will be the following weekend, with the beer tent opening Thursday, Sept. 15, the same night as the wine tasting event.

Fellowship – Bob Kostermann mentioned a number of opportunities to get together. On Aug. 9, from 5-7, members will grill up brats for the National Night Out event, then get together afterwards.

The Waunakee Senior Center is planning a trip to see a Brewers game, so Rotarians can sign up for that.

And Jon Townley is planning to host folks at Bishops Bay Sept. 13.

The Betty Lou Cruise is Aug. 26, from 7-10 p.m. That will feature appetizers aboard the cruise

Rotarians are also planning to get together and watch the rescheduled WaunaBoom fireworks show Aug. 20 either at Sixmile Creek Golf Course or at Ripp Park.
