The Waunakee Rotary Club met for Club Assembly April 27, giving committees a chance to review their projects and provide updates.

Membership and marketing is considering the different member types such as corporate and families as they look at possible policy changes. They’re reviewing the La Crosse Rotary Club’s descriptions, Jennifer Tasker said.

The international committee currently has no projects and could use some suggestions. Mick Holm talked a little bit about Food for Kidz. That event sent food to Ukraine and to the Community Action Coalition more locally. Mick helped orchestrate four other Food for Kidz events when he and Jeamie were in Arizona over the winter. Waunakee’s event is scheduled for October again this year.

For community projects, the committee is now identifying a project for the club’s 50th year. One project could be a metal rendering over the entrance to Village Park for the Rotary Lights, Ken Pesik said. The committee will likely propose this to the board of directors. The committee is also planning the senior picnic for the second Wednesday of July. WaunaFest will be July 20-23, and Wauktoberfest will be in mid September.

The vocational committee is finding families for the exchange student coming this fall from Mexico. Also, four scholarship recipients have been selected, Bob Arntz said. They are: Romi Ripp from Waunakee High School, receiving a $3,000 scholarship; Mary Lyons from St. Ambrose Academy receiving a $3,000 scholarship; Nicholas Nelson from Edgewood High School receiving a $1,000 scholarship; and Hannah Topoll from Edgewood High School receiving a $1,000 scholarship.

Romi, Mary, Nicholas and Hannah will attend our June 1 Rotary meeting.

The meetings and programs committee has speakers scheduled for meetings through August, including the new UW-Madison band director in a couple weeks. Committee members also had lots of good ideas for future programs, Todd Schmidt said.
