Waunakee Rotarian Al Dassow put on his hat as treasurer of the Waunakee Community Foundation to present a $5,000 check from the foundation at the Rotary Club’s Jan. 25 meeting.
The club applied for a Waunakee Community Foundation grant to help fund a $37,000 project at the Village Center and Picnic Shelter. That will fund the purchase and installation of ambient lighting at the two buildings.
“This will add a warm white glow around the roof of the proposed buildings for activities such as weddings and band concerts along with the ability to change colors for holidays or community awareness months,” the application states.
The lighting project has received funds from the Rotary Club, the Knights of Columbus and other local citizens. Currently, donations equal $25,000. Rotary will lead the project and then the lights will be owned by the village.
Club committees have a number of projects that they reported on during club assembly on Jan, 25.
Janette Jordee from the International Committee reported on a grant for a livelihood training program for unwed mothers in the Philippines. Another international project involves defluoridation in Kenya.
Community service members are fundraising for upcoming parks projects.
Fundraising is looking at ideas for other projects – not a plant sale or raffle.
Youth is preparing for RYLA May 17-20 and is contacting the high school guidance counselor to get the word out. A new background check is being implemented for volunteers who work with youths. High school scholarship applications are due March 15. Brisa will appear in the school play on Feb. 15.
Fellowship has seen people attend the fellowship events who can’t make the meetings. Also, the holiday party is Feb. 1 – at 5:30 p.m. at Buck and Honey’s. Bring a white elephant gift. The committee is also open to ideas for other activities.
Meetings and programs has speakers booked with an opening near St. Patrick’s Day. Let the members know if you have ideas for speakers.
