With scant attendance at the Sept. 28 meeting, the Waunakee Rotary Club learned about all the different committee’s work during Club Assembly.
The youth and vocational committee is getting scholarship applications to the various high school guidance counselors. And Brisa, the club’s exchange student from Mexico, is settling in, Bob Arntz reported.
The international committee has been active, too. Jeanette Jordee participated in a three-Rotary Club project, working with the DeForest and Madison Breakfast clubs to pack educational games to send to libraries in Guatemala as part of the Books for the World. A trip to Guatemala is planned, too. Jeanette said it’s a good project and she’s proud to be a Rotarian.
Linda Olson traveled to Croatia as part of a Friendship Exchange program and wants to spread the word about that Rotary opportunity. The Croatian friends she and other Rotarians made will be visiting around Labor Day, so there will be social opportunities with them
Mick Holms is heading up Food for Kids again and said every Rotary shift is full. The 3 p.m. shift will be exciting when the 4 millionth meal is packaged. Mick is still trying to recruit some strong folks to heft the large bags of beans and rice to the stations.
The meetings committee is asking members to sign up to help set-up meetings and greet. President-elect Phil Willems recognized Bob Arntz for his work, having set up meetings every week. Committee member Kylie West said speakers have been scheduled up to December. If you know of a topic for or a person to speak at a meeting, let her know.
Membership is looking to help new members follow through with their goals to become established members and get their blue badge. Also, Tony Bruns will survey newer members about their experience and how they learned about the club.
Fellowship is planning a boat cruise at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15. It’s a BYOB and food event. Bob Klostermann is planning other events, as well, including a gathering at Drumlin Ridge Winery.
Fundraising is working on the Rotary Lights event and brochure and will need greeters during the season. Help will also be needed setting up the lighted displays.
Popcorn sales at the Halloween at the Farm event also raise funds.
